:: CRONIN'S PUBLICK HOUSE - PUBLICK FODDER ::

May 9, 2008 - Join us at CPH every Monday at 8 PM for Stump Pub Trivia! It's easy and fun to play. In the first month of trivia at CPH, we've had a number of different winning teams. Play solo or form a team of up to six players. The first place team is always awarded a generous CPH gift certificate and our authentic fire truck siren sounds after the match to recognize the winners. The siren is an honor usually reserved only for Patriots touchdowns! There is no charge to play but remember, do not shout out the answers! For more info and a complete list of rules, visit this website. Come try to convert your knowledge into a gift certificate at CPH every Monday at 8 PM.

May 9, 2008 - CPH announces 25 cent wings during all Celtics playoff games and "Dollar Dogs" during all Red Sox games! Choose plain or Buffalo style wings during the Celtics games and premium hot dogs on bakery fresh rolls during Red Sox games. $8 pitchers of Bud, Bud Light and Michelob Ultra are always available and make a great pairing with our wings and dogs. If both teams are playing at the same time, enjoy both wings and dogs at our special discount price! Catch all the action on our new 42" Hi-Def plasma TV's. Sorry, special discount is for dine-in only and food service ends nightly at 10 PM.

May 9, 2008 - CPH is now serving Bud Light Lime in bottles. From the Bud Light Lime website, "Bud Light Lime is a premium light beer that combines the superior drinkability of Bud Light with a splash of 100% natural lime flavor. Bud Light Lime is sure to quench your thirst for something fresh, something new, something different. One sip and you’ll find the summer state of mind. It’s in "The Lime."" If the first week of sales at CPH is any indication, Bud Light Lime will be a big hit this summer. In addition to Bud Light Lime, CPH serves seven beers on draught, including Sam Adams Summer Ale, plus 25 varieties of bottled beer including summer favorites Smirnoff Twisted Green Apple and Mike's Hard Cranberry Lemonade. Stop by for a taste of summer!

May 9, 2008 - What does CPH and the new MGM Grand at Foxwoods have in common? Ed Kane! In fact, CPH was mentioned in a May 9th Patriot Ledger article about Ed's latest venture. Here's an excerpt: "He went to Harvard and majored in economics. Yet his education began well before, learning the bar business from his parents, who owned Kane’s Place, a working-class bar in Quincy Point now known as Cronin’s. For 11 years he bartended, waited tables and cleaned - all while absorbing how to build and maintain a clientele." CPH wishes Ed continued success at the MGM. For the 70 year history of our pub, including the 1978-1990 years as Kane's Place, click on our history page. For the full Patriot Ledger story about Ed, click here.

March 7, 2008 - Plans are now complete for our two-day St. Paddy's Celebration, March 16 & 17. Our 18th annual is shaping up to be the biggest and best ever! Irish music D.J. Willy O'Coleman, Bagpiper Lieutenant Luke McFadden, and our Irish Stepdancers are all returning after packing CPH for the past three years. In addition, we'll be serving our famous St. Paddy's menu only, from noon - 10 PM on Sunday and 11 AM - 10 PM on Monday. Specials include our Traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner, Irish Wild Turkey Dinner, Corned Beef sandwiches, Turkey sandwiches, Guinness Beef Stew and Mrs. Cronin's Homemade Irish Bread. We will return to our regular menu on Tuesday, March 18th.

March 7, 2008 - St. Paddy's Irish Entertainment schedule. For our St. Paddy's warm-up party on Sunday, March 16th, D.J. Willy O'Coleman will play from his large library of Irish hits, from 12 noon right through until 11 PM. We expect our Irish Stepdancers to arrive in the late afternoon or early evening on Sunday. On St. Paddy's Day, Monday March 17th, D.J. Willy O'Coleman spins Irish music from 12 noon until closing time! Special guest, Fire Lieutenant Luke McFadden, former Pipe Major of the Boston Gaelic Fire Brigade, arrives around dusk and plays sets inside and outside CPH. Lt. McFadden has been known to really stop traffic on Des Moines Road and he always gets a festive sing-along going inside the pub, so don't miss it. Again, Irish Stepdancers are booked for the early evening hours on Monday. Our St. Paddy's Day parties have been standing room only the past 18 years, so arrive early to get a seat!

March 7, 2008 - 25 Cent Wings During March Madness NCAA Hoop Tournament: The 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship (known to us all as March Madness) begins on Tuesday, March 18th and runs through the Championship game on Monday April 7th. CPH will be serving our regular chicken wings and our award winning Buffalo wings, for just 25 cents each! Special discount is available during all March Madness games for dine-in customers, until 10 PM. Catch all of the action on our all-new Hi-Def Plasma TV's, relax with your favorite beverage and sample Cronin's wings which the Boston Herald has called "A Sure Hit."

March 7, 2008 - Dollar Dogs are back during all Red Sox games...at least the ones played at a reasonable hour! The Red Sox open the regular season in Japan on March 25 and 26. Unfortunately, both games begin at 6:05 AM, well before CPH opens for business. Things don't get much better time wise when the Sox return to the states, with the next two "real" games at Oakland on April 1 and 2 beginning at 10:05 PM after our kitchen has closed. We will be showing those games on our Hi-Def Plasmas. Looks like our popular "Dollar Dogs" promotion will get started on Friday April 4th with a 7:05 PM game at Toronto. Look for our special "Home Opener Party" on Tuesday April 8th beginning at 2:05 PM. More info to follow in our April "Publick Fodder" posting.

February 18, 2008 - Inflation, Schminflation! Did you know that Cronin's hasn't increased prices since 2003? Whether it's gasoline, heating oil, groceries, or even gold, it seems like everywhere you turn, prices are going through the roof, but not here at Cronin's. We have held the line on prices for five years! Stop by and enjoy more for less at CPH!

February 18, 2008 - Happy 70th to CPH: According to City Clerk Joe Shea, it was 70 years ago in 1938 when Charlie Dann first obtained the coveted City of Quincy Common Victualer - All Alcohol License for Dann's Place at 23 Des Moines Road. If these walls could talk! Some old City of Quincy street directories still refer to the CPH driveway as Dann Street, a tribute to our founder. Of course this business wouldn't have survived 70 days, never mind 70 years, without all the great customers and staff along the way. As the current holders of this license, we are very grateful to you all. Watch for 70th Anniversary Specials all year long.

February 18, 2008 - Smithwick's Irish Ale added to CPH draught line-up: At the request of longtime CPH regular Jim Clark, among others, we have proudly added historic Smithwick's to our draught line-up, just in time for St. Paddy's Day. We've already sold five kegs of Smithwick's in a few short weeks! Smithwick's (pronounced 'smith-icks') is an Irish red ale style beer from Kilkenny in Ireland. It was originally brewed in St. Francis Abbey Brewery in Kilkenny, known as 'Smithwicks Brewery' until c.2000. The brewery is situated on the site of a Franciscan abbey where monks had brewed ale since the 14th century, and has ruins of the original abbey on its grounds. It is Ireland’s oldest operating brewery, founded by John Smithwick in 1710 on land owned by the Duke of Ormonde. Stop by CPH for a small Smithwick's pint (16 oz.) for $4, or an Imperial pint (20 oz.) for $4.50.

February 18, 2008 - Daily Race Game added to CPH Lottery selections: CPH now handles wagering on the Mass. State Lottery's "Daily Race Game", www.masslottery.com/games/race.html which the Boston Globe recently called "cartoon thoroughbreds". The State Lottery Commission recently installed a new 32" plasma TV at CPH dedicated exclusively to the Daily Race Game. The DRG joins Keno, the Numbers Game, Instant Scratch tickets and all of the other on-line jackpot games available at CPH. Stop by and take a chance at CPH. You have to play!

Overheard New Years Eve at the Marriot: Everyone who attended the fantastic wedding of John and Barbara Flannery on New Years Eve at the Marriot-Quincy had a blast! But did you know that this was at least the fourth wedding of a couple who first met at CPH in the past 18 years? Valentine's Day may have just passed, but Cupid's Arrow is always in the air at CPH.

November 11, 2007 - CPH congratulates Mayor-elect Tom Koch on his big election victory. CPH was honored to host "Halftime with Tom" during the Pats vs. Cowboys game on October 14th. A full house was on hand for this event. Tom generously bought delicious appetizers for the bar and each table, then stopped by to chat with everyone present. The Cronin family wishes Tom continued success as he begins his important new duties.

November 11, 2007 - With Christmas fast approaching, please remember that Lottery season tickets, CPH Gift Certificates and CPH T-shirts make the perfect gifts and are always on sale at the pub. We are also booking holiday parties for any size group. Call Mike or Peggy at 617-786-9804 to book your party now.

November 11, 2007 - Congratulations to "Dollar Hot Dog" John Flannery for winning the Best Costume Grand Prize at our 3rd Annual Halloween Party. John and his fiancee "Ketchup" Barbara McSweeney looked fantastic. We wish John and Barb all the best at their New Years Eve wedding! Close runners-up Bob and Kathy Pyer were very convincing as the parents of "Wally the Green Monster" and Kevin McGroarty was perfect as the "Grim Reaper". Everyone in costume received a T-shirt and mixing glass for their effort. "Hot Dog" John also won an authentic Corona Light mirror, but sadly an overexcited fan damaged it when he rushed to get John's autograph. Any day now, Corona Light will be shipping John a replacement mirror from Mexico. Special thanks to "Exotic Bartender" Ashley Connor and "The Flying Nun" Paula Donovan for making this another great event at CPH.

November 11, 2007 - Speaking of Ashley and Paula, if the Patriots score a touchdown and you're in the 02169 zip code, you'll hear about it . An anonymous firefighter friend donated to CPH an authentic (and very loud) firetruck siren that either Ashley, or more likely Paula, will activate with each Patriots touchdown on Sundays. With the Pats having a great season so far, the siren has gotten plenty of use. At first we were afraid that the girls wouldn't be bothered with the siren, but since it arrived we haven't been able to keep them away from it. We fully expect Ashley and Paula to take the Civil Service exam for firefighter the next time it's given. Stop by for a Pats game, join the always lively crowd, enjoy the wings and see what all the noise is about!

November 11, 2007 - Holiday hours: We will be OPEN all day and night, until 1 AM on Thanksgiving Eve. We will NOT OPEN on Thanksgiving. We will be OPEN until 6 PM on Christmas Eve. We will NOT OPEN on Christmas. We will be OPEN until 6 PM on New Years Eve. We will RETURN to regular hours at 10 AM on New Years Day. The Cronin family wishes all of our customers and staff a happy and safe holiday season.

September 16, 2007 - Plans are already underway at CPH for our Third Annual Halloween Party on Saturday, October 27th from 8 PM to closing. Once again our principal party planner Ashley Connor will decorate, bartend and host. This event has grown in popularity every year and the costumes have been very impressive. There is always a great prize for Best Costume so get going! Past winners have been "Sexy Nurse" Tanya Connor, "Shrek" Chris Thompson, and "Grim Reaper" Danny Barter. See you on October 27th!

September 16, 2007 - CPH is pleased to announce that as our wine sales continue to increase, we have once again upgraded the quality of the product. We will begin phasing in selections from California's award-winning Woodbridge vineyards . Over the years, we've learned from our wine drinking couples that one may like a glass of White Zinfandel with dinner while the other may enjoy a glass of Merlot. In order to accommodate diverse tastes, we've tried to stock our wines in the 187 ml individual size bottles, but many suppliers are phasing out this size. We were delighted when a local sommelier recommended Woodbridge, a winery committed to producing top quality wines in "mini" bottles. Shiraz, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Grigio and White Zinfandel will now be available with the price remaining at a modest $4 per glass. Salud!

September 16, 2007 - CPH remains "all ears" when it comes to your suggestions for new products. We'd rather hear it from our customers than a pushy salesman. At your request, we've recently added to our line-up Blue Moon on draught, Heineken Premium Light in bottles, and Grey Goose vodka . Keep the suggestions coming!

May 7, 2007 - CPH welcomes bartender Tara F. to our day shift, Monday thru Wednesday. Tara brings a wealth of experience from Boston hotspots McFadden's, Jillian's, Tequila Rain and the Stadium Bar. While on Lansdowne Street, she was a favorite of many Red Sox players and even worked as a babysitter for David and Tiffany Ortiz. Could "Big Papi" be stopping by CPH someday? Tara is a graduate of Curry College and boasts a vast collection of shot glasses from around the world. Her father is also a Police Officer, which makes her feel right at home with the Cronin's. Stop by and say welcome aboard to Tara!

April 4, 2007 - CPH has been talking to Lorinda and Jamie of "Stump Team Trivia" about the possibility of bringing a weekly trivia contest back to Cronin's. Team trivia flourished here in the late 1990's but after trivia coordinator Denise (Cronin) McGuiggan "retired" from CPH, interest in trivia faded out. Tentatively, we're looking at scheduling the two-hour contests on Sunday nights. Is 2007 the right time to bring trivia back to CPH? Please let us know what you think, either via the web or in-person.

February 10, 2007 - CPH has introduced "24 cent wings" on Monday nights from 6-10 PM, in appreciation of the significant crowd that has been visiting to watch the Fox TV drama "24." "Billy" Wright Jr. Billy was a great policeman and a loyal friend and colleague to Denise, Mike and our founder, the late Sgt. Denis Cronin. Everyone was thrilled to see Billy when he stopped by just before Christmas, little did we know it would be his last visit. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Gordon Stimmel of the Toronto Star recently said, "My top picks are the California Vendange Shiraz and Vendange Chardonnay." Cronin's currently stocks the following line of Vendange wines: Shiraz, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Grigio and White Zinfandel. Stop by and try one of the award winning Vendange wines.
